Jeannie DeMarinis
artist statement
I paint from life. The immediacy of painting the human figure with its endless nuances and variations is riveting. Likewise, landscape painting with its changing light, seasons and weather conditions is a constant challenge to me. In the last several years I have been especially drawn to painting at places where I find people, color and movement, which includes parks, outdoor cafes and farmers markets, the seaside and swimming pools. I paint on site and love to capture the dynamic interactions of people in these outdoor contexts. I strive to bring the vibrancy of these scenes to the canvas so that viewers can also experience the moment. When I create larger studio paintings I use drawings and paintings that I have done from live sources for reference reference and inspiration.
